The region has a wide range of attractions for visitors of all ages including megalithic burial grounds, ancient Castles, Abbeys, Wildlife Parks and of course the renowned Donegal coastal scenery.

Carrowmore - this is the largest megalithic cemetery in Ireland, with over 60 tombs. The oldest of these predate Newgrange by some 700 years. A restored cottage houses an interesting exhibition relating to the site.

Donegal Bay Drive - Donegal Bay is touched by many different features and routes. The wild scenery and the central highlands are a feature of this spectacular drive. Every turn provides a spectacular view. This fascinating drive includes Slieve League, which are the highest marine cliffs in Europe rising over 606m above the ocean, bustling market towns, wild, primitive and historic glens. Also included is a detour to the ancient pilgrimage centre on Lough Derg. It is journey, which can easily occupy a full day.

Donegal Castle - a restored 15th century Norman Tower House, with the addition of a 17th century Jacobean Manor House. Features include Period Fireplace, Turrets, Curtain Wall and Gate House.

Castle Coole - a magnificent neo-classical house designed by James Wyatt, family home of the Earls of Belmore. It has remarkably fine interiors and exquisite furniture and furnishings from before 1830.

Glebe House & Gallery - Regency house decorated with Victorian William Morris wallpaper, textiles and works by leading 20th century artists.

  • Open: 3rd to 11th April, Daily 11:00 - 18:30
  • 15th May to 26th September, Saturday to Thursday 11:00 - 18:30
  • Access to house by guided tour only - maximum 15 people
  • Access to the ground floor of the gallery for people with disabilities
  • Facilities: Exhibition, toilets and car/coach park. Videos in English relating to the house and to the nearby Glenveagh National Park are shown in the coffee shop. Coffee shop is open for the summer months.

Florence Court - One of the most important houses in Ulster, built in the mid eighteenth century by John Cole. The house has magnificent plaster work, the striking rococo dining-room ceiling was cleverly saved from the fire in 1955. The rest of the, plaster work has been meticulously restored.

Marble Arch Caves - Marble Arch Caves are one of Europe's finest show caves allowing visitors to explore a fascinating, natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers.

Glenveagh National Park - Some 14,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, glens and woods with a large herd of red deer. The central feature is a 19th century castle surrounded by the famous Glenveagh Gardens.

  • Access to the castle by guided tour - maximum 20 people
  • The visitor centre is accessible for visitors with disabilities
  • The ground floor of the castle is partially accessible for people with disabilities
  • Facilities: Audio-visual show, exhibitions, toilets, disabled toilets, car/coach park, self guiding trails, free minibus to the Castle. Castle tearoom (open Easter and end May to September) and Visitor Centre restaurant (open full season)

Newmills Corn and Flax Mills - A complex of industrial buildings which includes both corn and flax mills powered by the river Swilly. The visitor to Newmills can experience the pleasure of seeing one of the largest waterwheels in Ireland in action as it drives the machinery of the corn mill.

Parke's Castle - A 17th century fortified manor house which has recently been restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmanship. The courtyard contains the foundations and features of an earlier defensive structure.

  • Open: 13th to 17th March & 1 April to End May, Tuesday to Sunday & Bank Holidays 10:00 - 17:00
  • June to September, Daily 09:30 - 18:30
  • October, Daily 10:00 - 17:00
  • Guided tours available on request - maximum 25 people
  • Access to the ground floor for visitors with disabilities
  • Facilities: Exhibitions, audio-visual show, tearooms, public car/coach park close to site, toilets and disabled toilets.

Boyle Abbey - An impressive and well preserved Cistercian Monastery which was founded in the 12th century under the patronage of the local ruling family, the MacDermotts. Though mutilated during the 17th and 18th centuries when it was used to accommodate a military garrison, Boyle Abbey nevertheless retains its ability to impress the visitor as one of the most formidable of the early Cistercian foundations in Ireland. A restored gatehouse of 16th/17th century houses an exhibition. Restricted access for people with disabilities.

Belleek Pottery - This World famous pottery offers guided tours and has a visitor's centre.

Enniskillen Castle - incorporating The Regimental Museum, The Watergate History and Heritage Centre. The Castle also holds a variety of other exhibitions through-out the year.

Sligo Abbey - Known locally as the Abbey, the Dominican Friary was founded in the mid 13th century by Maurice FitzGerald. The site contains a great wealth of carvings dating from the 15th century and is well worth a visit.
